The Wells-Ogunquit C.S.D. has announced the 30th anniversary of the Literary Achievement Awards program, a creative writing contest that recognizes talented student writers and provides a showcase for the WOCSD Language Arts curriculum at every grade level.

Organizers of the writing contest wish to remind parents and interested Wells-Ogunquit students that the deadline for entering the contest is fast approaching on Friday, February 26th. The contest is open to all WOCSD Grade K through Adult Education students.

Contest entry “cover sheets” are still available on the District’s website: http://www.k12wocsd.net/. The forms must be signed by both a parent/guardian and a teacher of the entering student and included with each entry. Writings by students in third grade and above should be typed or word-processed and interline spaced at 1.5 times.

Small cash prizes are awarded for those who place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd at each grade level. Honorable mention prizes are also available with the top price of $500 going to the 12th grade student who places 1st in the 12th grade category.

Students are limited to one entry each and can be non-fiction or fiction and written in several styles including poetry, essay or short story.

Winners of the contest and their families will be invited to attend the LAA Ceremony on April 28th at Wells Elementary School at 6:30 p.m.

The literary Achievement Awards began in 1986 and has been sponsored in recent years by the Wells Rotary Club.
