Wells High School recognized for achieving the highest graduation rate for 2009-2012

At its March 6^th meeting the Wells-Ogunquit CSD School Committee recognized Wells High School for achieving the highest graduation rate among all high schools in Maine from 2009 to 2012. In 2012, the school’s graduation rate reached 99%.

“That says a lot for Jim (Principal Daly) and his staff at the high school,” noted Chair Russell Fox who, near the start of the meeting, asked Principal Daly to step forward to accept a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of all WHS staff from the School Committee.

In his comments, Fox cited a recent news article about the trend of rising graduation rates in Maine. According to Maine Department of Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen the graduation rate among Maine high schools collectively rose over a four year period from 80% in 2009 to above 85% in 2012.

In 2012, Wells High School received Silver Medal status in U.S. News and World Report’s list of Best High Schools in the United States. The magazine reported that WHS ranked 684^th out of almost 22,000 high schools considered. Among high schools in Maine, Wells High School ranked 6^th.
