Wells Junior High School students invite you to their production of "The Wizard of Oz - Young Performers' Edition" later this month. A combined cast of actors and tech crew represents over 60 students from grades 5-8. This interpretation of the classic 1899 children's story became a Broadway play in 1903 and toured for nine months before becoming a major motion picture. Performances will be held Thursday, March 22nd and Friday, March 23rd at 7pm. A Saturday matinee will take place on March 24th at 2pm. All shows take place on the WJHS stage, Ward Gymnasium, Route 1, Wells, Maine.

Skip down the yellow-brick road as Dorothy begins her journey. Dorothy leaves her aunt and uncle in Kansas in hopes of finding what is on the "other side of the rainbow". While falling into a dream state, she visits the Emerald City and its many colorful characters. Along the way to find the Wizard of Oz, she and her dog, Toto, befriend the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion. Their travels lead them into many adventures in their search for Wicked Witch's broom.

The show's director is Josie Lynn Perkins with Chris Milliken as assistant director. Alison Graichen is the music director. The production team also includes many dedicated community members who assist with choreography, costuming, technical support, and photography.

Director Perkins shared this play has a strong message and is a reminder to all that a true friend will help you on your life's journey and will get you through all the problems 'big and small' that may arise. Remember that when in doubt, look within for the answer. For Assistant Director Milliken, within this production the power of fascination is in the air, which is a central theme of the power of the arts.

Mark your calendar; tickets are available at the door at a cost of $5.00. Refreshments and snacks will be for sale. FMI, contact WJHS at 207-646-5142.
