Wells High School senior Colin Sevigney has been selected Athlete of the Month for March 2014. Sevigney earned this distinction with his academics, sportsmanship and athletics on the WHS Wrestling Team.

This makes the second time that Sevigney has received this honor. During his freshman year, he was named Athlete of the Month for February of 2011. Over his high school wrestling career Sevigney has received numerous other accolades and awards for his wrestling including his recent selection by Wrestling USA Magazine as one of the magazine’s Senior All American high school wrestlers. In Bath at the state wrestling meet in February, Sevigney, for the second time, won a Class B title in his weight category.

According to Scott Lewia, the Coach of the WHS Wrestling Team, Sevigney “is the most decorated wrestler” in the history of wrestling at WHS.

“In his high school career, Colin wrestled in 24 tournament placing in the top 4 of 22 of those tournaments, being in the finals in 21 of those tournaments and winning 12 of those tournaments,” commented Lewia. “He is also the first 4 time State Finalist for Wells High School. Colin finished with a career record of 150-17.”

In February, the Journal Tribune in Biddeford described Sevigney and teammate Michael Curtis as “…two of the best in the state…” This year there were only 12 wrestlers on the Wells team.

Athlete of the Month is sponsored at WHS by Cole Harrison Insurance Agency and Moody Maxon Real Estate. WHS athletes picked to receive this honor are selected by WHS’s Activities Director and Principal.

Presenting Moody with Athlete of the Month on April 29th was WHS Activities Director Jack Molloy and Pamela Moody-Maxon.

“Colin is a committed athlete that wrestles year round and has been a pleasure to watch through the years,” commented Moody-Maxon. “He is a true competitor and will be missed by his coaches and teammates in the future.”

Both Moody-Maxon and fellow sponsor John C. Kreie of Cole Harrison Insurance Agency are alumni of Wells High School where they were student athletes competing in a variety of sports.
