At this time, the 67 students who placed in this year’s creative writing contest will be recognized. This will be the first time since 2019 that this event is presented in front of a live audience.
Following an introduction, 12 first-place recipients from grades kindergarten through 12th will be able to read aloud all or a portion of their short stories, non-fiction pieces, and poems. Contest prizes will also be awarded including the top prize of $500 to first-place winner, senior Kenna Olsen.
Others placing first in their respective grade categories include: Ariana Harvey (kindergarten), Connor Roche (1st gr.), Penny Braniff (2nd gr.), Lucas Harvey (3rd gr.), Will Minogue (4th gr.), Elsa Lawson (5th gr.), Lily Hamilton (6th gr.), Owen Avery (7th gr.), Ava Marsh (8th gr.), Ainslie Donovan (9th gr.), Pieper Shead (10th gr.) and Sam Coleman, (11th gr.).
All entries were judged anonymously in March at two levels by district staff and community members. The top winner at each grade level, with the exception of Grade 12, will receive $100. Second-place winners receive $50 and third-place winners receive $25. Honorable mentions receive $15 gift certificates to Las Olas Taqueria in Wells.

This contest was sponsored by the Wells-Ogunquit CSD, the Rotary Club of Wells, the Rotary Club of Ogunquit and Las Olas Taqueria. The WOCSD Literary Achievement Awards was established in 1986.
