Purcell selected to become the head coach of the girls’ basketball team

The Athletics Department at Wells High School has announced that Sandi Purcell is the school’s next Girls Varsity Basketball Coach.

“Coach Purcell will bring excellent knowledge of the game, energy, and enthusiasm to our WHS program and she will be an outstanding role model for our student-athletes,” commented Wells-Ogunquit CSD Athletics Director Pat Moody in a statement.

“It was so exciting,” said Purcell about receiving her new job. “It’s been a dream of mine to be a head coach ever since I started playing basketball. To finally be a head coach and come into such a successful and well-known program has honestly been a dream.” Purcell indicated that she is quite familiar with the Wells area having visited the community for several summers.

According to Moody, Coach Purcell has been an assistant coach at the University of Southern Maine. Prior to that, she coached at Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, New Hampshire, where she led that school’s 2019-20 junior varsity basketball team to a state title.

During her playing career at Keene State College (KSC), Purcell became a 1,000-point scorer. She was also a two-time Little East Conference All-Star at KSC where, as team captain, she participated in the first KSC team to win a Little East Championship.
