The results are in from the Wells-Ogunquit Music Booster’s 2018 Textile Drive. Over the month of February, the parent volunteer group collected 12,800 pounds of textiles (clothing, bedding, etc.) thereby raising over $2,500 for the Music Program at Wells High School. The drive began three years ago and is planned to continue annually.

Over the past three years, the textile drive has motivated many area residents to clean out their closets and, in doing so, donate to two great causes – the WHS Music Boosters and the Epilepsy Foundation of New England.

Ashley Breton has been the organizer of this textile drive since its inception. “This couldn’t have been accomplished without the support of our textile drop locations (WOCSD schools, Wells Town Hall, WOCSD Superintendent’s office, Prime Storage, Matt’s Barbershop and the Wells Transfer Station), the local papers printing our press release, all of the volunteers that worked on the drive and, of course, the community who so generously donated their gently worn textiles,” commented Breton who added, “It takes a village!”

The Music Boosters would like to thank everyone in York County that had a part in this year’s drive. Funds generated from these collections are vital to the WHS Music Program. For example, funds raised from collecting unwanted clothing and so forth helped to make a trip to New York City this year possible for the WHS “A cappella” group which performed at Lincoln Center.

On March 11th, all of the collected textiles stored in bags were loaded onto a truck belonging to Goodwill at Prime Storage in Wells. In the photo are many of the WHS student volunteers and parents who helped with this year’s textile drive.
