A few days before the start of the new school year, Hannaford in Wells donated 500 bottles of water and five cases of granola bars to Wells Elementary School to help stock student emergency lockdown kits. This makes the second year that Hannaford has made this special donation. This year, Hannaford also donated four “banana” boxes full of school supplies plus several backpacks for individual student use.

Bringing these items to the school on August 30th was Hannaford Assistant Store Manager Adam Bowen and Meat and Seafood Manager Darren Roberts. Greeting Bowen and Roberts at WES and helping them unload the items was WES head custodian David Boyd and Assistant Principal Ken Spinney.

“We’re extremely appreciative of Hannaford for providing us with waters and granola bars for our lockdown kits,” said Spinney. “We take safety very seriously.”

"It’s a wonderful thing to know that our community members and businesses support our schools this way,” added Spinney. “And it was a pleasant surprise today receiving a number of backpacks because these are very challenging times for many families. It’s nice to know that we have a few backpacks to help our students. I am extremely appreciative,” said Spinney.

According to Assistant Manager Bowen, Hannaford in Wells also donates to others in the community including the Wells Parks & Recreation Department.
