Earlier this fall, Wells High School senior Cameren Cousins was named WHS’s “Student-Athlete of the Month” for June of 2017. His selection was based on his academics, sportsmanship and participation on the WHS Boys Varsity Baseball team as pitcher and first baseman.

Presenting a plaque to Cousins on October 4th was Pam Moody-Maxon of Moody Maxon Real Estate and John C. Kreie of Cole Harrison Insurance Agency. Both companies are the sponsors of Student-Athlete of the Month at WHS.

“It’s a great honor to get this,” said Cousins upon receiving the award. “The team definitely helped out on this one because I was not a big strikeout pitcher. I pitched to contact and the team was there to help me out.”

According to WHS Baseball Coach Todd Day, Cousins was voted the team’s MVP for 2017. During the season, Cousins pitched 8-0 games, batted 10 runs in and achieved a .396 batting average which turned out to be the highest among his teammates.

Regarding Cousins’ award for June, Dodd commented, “Cam was a team captain and pitched a shutout in leading Wells to a 3-0 victory in a June playoff game. He is outstanding in all facets of the game of baseball and represents Wells High School, the community and his team with class, integrity and pride.”

"Cam comes from a big athletic family where all the kids have excelled in sports,” noted John Kreie, a former athlete at Wells High School. “Cam plays each sport with a ton of passion, pride and enthusiasm. That, along with natural talent, makes him the athlete he is today.”
