A “Peace, Love and Music” Happening at WES

On Saturday night, March 8th, 150 elementary school girls and their dads (many wearing wigs) attended this year’s PTSA sponsored “Girls Gala” at Wells Elementary School. While last year’s dance had a much more formal theme of “Masquerade Ball”, this year had a laid back, hippie theme of ‘Peace, Love and Music’. Suddenly it was the 1960’s again.

Under a gigantic peace symbol hovering over the dance floor with colored lights streaming down to the gym walls, couples danced to a variety of dance music provided by Mike’s Music Mix.

There were refreshments provided by the WOCSD Nutritional Services and a raffle held for prizes donated by area business including an American Girl Doll and passes to Funtown Splashtown USA.

PTSA members Jen Olin and Kim Woodward were the organizers of the event. Last year Olin indicated that there are five themes planned for these annual dances, themes that will be rotated year-to-year to provide variety for this special night as students pass through their elementary grades.

Each girl and dad had the opportunity to have a professional portrait of them taken together by photographer Marina DeMarco of Angel DeMarco Photography. As a result, each girl’s family will receive a 5 X 7 portrait to remember this special event.

The PTSA wishes to thank the following for support of this year’s Girls Gala: Jo-Ann’s Gardens, Inc., Merriland Farm Café & Golf Course, High Standard Stable, Funtown Splashtown USA, Gymnation, Wonder Mountain Fun Park, Naviina Hair Salon and Day Spa, Bella Tress Hair Salon Inc., Webhannet River Bait and Tackle, Liquid Dreams and Perkins Cove Candies.
