On January 5th, the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) at Wells Elementary School (WES) was presented with a check for $500 from McDonalds Restaurant in Wells. This was part of the restaurant’s celebration of its re-opening after recent exterior and interior renovations which began the first of November.
At a noontime ceremony, Bob Hogan of the Hogan Company, owner-operator of 17 McDonalds Restaurants including the McDonalds in Wells, presented the check to PTSA member Stacy Robie who accepted the donation on behalf of her volunteer organization which supports education at WES.
“It’s a huge benefit to the PTSA,” said Robie, who holds the office of Secretary for the PTSA. “We’re very appreciative.” Robie was joined at the event with other PTSA members and students of Wells Elementary School.
Among those present representing McDonalds included Ronald McDonald, Tim Moulton (Director of Operations for the Hogan Company), Wells McDonalds Restaurant Manager Jerry O’Brien and Supervisor Tracy Charles.
“Well I think it’s just all about giving back to the community,” said Manager O’Brien about the donation to the PTSA. “That’s what we are, that’s what McDonalds is, that’s what McDonalds does all over the United States, all over the world. So we like to play a big part in that. That’s something we take a lot of pride in.”
But, generosity to WES does not end with this donation. Tracy Charles emphasized that January 19th is designated as ‘McTeachers Day’ at the Wells McDonalds. On that day, 20 percent of all sales from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. will be donated to the PTSA. According to Charles, the restaurant is also offering specials throughout January and the raffle of a snow blower on February 1st.
From donations and funds raised through their activities, the PTSA is able to sponsor popular annual events at Wells Elementary School including Colors Day and Starz for Broadway. The PTSA also makes grants to teachers for special classroom needs, field trips and other items for the school not covered in the District’s budget.
According to Robie, the PTSA, in the last year, purchased iPods for student use and funded construction of a much needed sun shade on the school’s playground.
Robie added that the PTSA is always looking for new members to volunteer as much time as they wish. If interested in joining the PTSA please contact Ashley Breton at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
