Wells High School students Megan Schneider and Madison Szczygiel have been selected by their school to receive the 2017-2018 Good Citizenship Award of the Western Maine Conference (WMC).

Each year, two seniors per high school in the WMC are selected by their school to receive the award.  According to WHS Principal Eileen Sheehy, those that are picked are "two student-athletes who exemplify the qualities of leadership, citizenship, strong academics and are strong athletes,"   At WHS those that are in the selection process for this award include the principal, assistant principal, and athletic director.

Madison Szczygiel is described by WHS as a natural leader not only in class but on the athletic field.  She is an active community volunteer and has received numerous academic accolades.   She has been captain of the WHS Girls Soccer team and has been a record-setting participant on the indoor and outdoor track teams.   She was president of the senior class, manager of the hockey team, and an officer on both the Student Council and Fems in Stem.  This fall she plans to attend college and major in pre-med/Biology.

Megan Schneider is described by WHS as a well-rounded student, athlete, and member of the school community who is committed to the school's sports program and government.  She is president of the Student Council, co-president of the National Honor Society and captain of the volleyball and Lacrosse teams.  Teachers and coaches appreciate her intelligence and strong work ethic.  She has been awarded numerous academic and athletic achievement awards and volunteers her time working with kids.  In the fall, she plans to attend college to major in English.

On March 1st, Schneider and Szczygiel will be honored by the Western Maine Conference at the organization's banquet held at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland.
